Before I knew they were there, I didn't give it much thought until it was Off the Grid night. But now that I know they are located just 4 little city blocks away, I think about them all morning. I read their Facebook page and I look for their tweets, wondering what is on the menu today and hoping for the salmon. I brought my lunch today so I thought that having my husband's homemade pizza waiting for me would help deter my craving but it didn't. So, at just a little past noon I headed out with my $3.00 to pick up an "appetizer" for my lunch and justifying my purchase "for the sake of the blog."
Today's menu featured Miso Tuna, Hijiki Black Seaweed, and Takana Mustard Greens. I really wanted to get the Miso Tuna since that is one of my favorites, but I forced myself to try something new and after examining the other two at the cart I chose the Hijiki Black Seaweed. This vegan option consists of marinated black seaweed and shredded carrots. The filling is marinated in soy sauce and what also tasted like plum sauce, giving it a slight sweet taste to contrast with the saltiness of the soy sauce. All of the flavors blended nicely with the toastiness of the seaweed wrapper. The marinade made the veggies soft and inviting, and the whole snack was extremely tasty.
It's been recommended to me that I implement a rating system, so I thought I would give that a trial run. With 5 being the best and 1 being the worst, I give my Hijiki Black Seaweed onigilly a 4.
Rating: 4/5 (ratings guide)
Onigilly (@onigilly) $3.00 per snack
