Onigilly - Chicken Teriyaki

Yes! I am always happy to walk by Onigilly and see that they are serving something I haven't had before. When I saw that one of the offerings was Chicken Teriyaki it was hard to even have the patience to wait in the queue. I have a fondness for all things teriyaki, and I was looking forward to sampling Onigilly's take on it. I have been waiting for a while now to try this particular snack, and it fully lived up to my expectations.

By now everyone who is reading this blog will know that Onigilly is one of my favorite food carts here in San Francisco. I eagerly await their morning tweets to find out if I'll be making the walk down to Embarcadero to try one for lunch. It's also the first cart I go to—religiously—when I attend Off the Grid events. Even if I have already planned out which food trucks I am going to visit, I need my Onigilly first.

As I expected, the Chicken Teriyaki was fabulous. I was surprised to find that the baked chicken wasn't whole strips of chicken but rather chopped up pieces more closely resembling that of a spicy tuna roll. It wasn't the texture I was expecting, yet it worked better than had it been large chunks of chicken. The sauce was both salty and sweet but never overpowering. The sesame seeds added just the right amount of  nuttiness to complete this tasty snack. The Chicken Teriyaki is the only chicken item they currently have on their menu, so I highly recommend grabbing one the next time it's offered.
